For years I’ve had old lenses sitting around on shelves and in unused camera bags doing nothing but collecting dust and taking up space. Some of these are lenses that I bought when I was first starting out and I have since replaced them with better quality lenses. Others came with various cameras that I have purchased over the years and I never really needed or used them. So, it’s time to let them go. We listed them for sale online and two of the five we listed have already sold.
The first lens that sold was the Canon 50mm 1.8, or “nifty fifty” as it is often referred to. This is a great little lens for someone looking to get started using prime (non-zoom) lenses, and I have actually purchased it twice (I dropped the first one and damaged it beyond repair). However, the focus is very slow and loud, and compared to my other lenses, it just feels cheap. I also have a 28mm and an 85mm, and I found myself neglecting the 50mm and then just getting frustrated with it when I did try to use it. So, the decision was made to let it go, and it sold in less than 24 hours.
The next lens to sell was a Canon 17-85mm 4-5.6 that I bought used several years back because I needed something with a wider angle than what I had. I have since replaced it with a true wide angle lens that works much better for my needs, so off it went.
Now, you might be wondering what I’m going to do with the income from the sale of these lenses… Well, as soon as they are all out the door, every last penny (plus a few additional pennies!) will be going toward the Canon 24-70 2.8L lens. I have the 70-200 2.8L and I absolutely adore that lens (I just wish it wasn’t so unbelievably heavy, but it gives me a built-in workout!). I can’t wait to have the 24-70 in my hands, or should I say, on my camera!
